Pre-planning a farewell
Pre-plan and Prepay
You may choose to prepay or pre-plan your funeral. This will allow your loved ones to gather and support one another, remember, and celebrate your life, without the responsibility of making difficult choices in very emotional circumstances.
You may know what you would like for your funeral, or you may wish to discuss options and plan the service. We have the information to help you to do so.
The ‘My Life, My Farewell’ booklet is available from Woolertons’ and has been developed through the wide collective experience of members of the Funeral Directors’ Association of New Zealand.
This very helpful booklet guides you through the personal information required by the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths, and Marriages. Having these details pre-filled will be of great assistance to those finalizing your funeral arrangements. You can also record your preferences for your funeral arrangements, including things you might not want. There are prompts to assist you and there is space for any other special instructions you may have.
Do take the time to talk today to your family and your Funeral Director to create a meaningful farewell for you and your loved ones when you’re gone.
The booklet enables you to:
- Record your personal information as required by the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths, and Marriages. Having these details pre-filled will be a great help to those finalizing your funeral arrangements.
- Record the details of those who should be notified of your death – friends, clubs, associations, service providers, professionals etc.
- Record your preferences for your funeral arrangements, including things you might not want. There are prompts to assist you and there is space at the end for any other special instructions you may have.

PRE-PAID FUNERALS
For many people, pre-planning and pre-paying a funeral may go hand in hand. At the time of pre-planning a funeral, you also have the option of pre-paying for it. This option provides peace of mind that money is set aside for the funeral and that this financial responsibility will not fall onto someone else.
We are able to recommend The Funeral Trust who hold the funds in a trust until they are needed. Pre-paid funeral funds are not held by Woolertons’ Funeral Home.
Woolertons’ Funeral Homes endeavours to provide the funeral service that’s right for every individual. We can also provide support for grieving families and friends of loved ones. We’re here to help, so feel free to call us any time that you need us.
Pre-paying for all or part of your funeral service helps to relieve your family and loved ones of the financial responsibility of the funeral expenses. Pre-paid funerals up to $10,000 are currently excluded from asset testing (under government legislation) when assessing eligibility for a subsidy for long term residential care for the elderly.
